Why this matters here

Older Indian survey and revenue records sit on the Everest spheroid, not WGS 84. Treating one as the other puts everything a few hundred metres out — enough to move a plot boundary onto a neighbour.

Indian systems included

Kalianpur 1880, 1937 and 1975, the India zone grids, UTM zones 42N to 47N on both WGS 84 and Indian datums, and the WGS 84 state systems.

What does it report?

The centroid of each feature and of the whole layer, the bounding box in degrees and in metres, the convex hull, vertex counts and the geometry types present.

Which centroid is used?

The mean of every vertex, which is predictable and is what most people expect. Note that for a crescent or a ring this can fall outside the shape itself.

What is a convex hull for?

It is the tightest shape that wraps every point in the layer, like a rubber band round them. Useful for working out a survey extent or a rough boundary from scattered points.

Can I download the results?

Yes. The centroid, bounding box and convex hull can each be downloaded as GeoJSON.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?
