Clip One Layer by Another

Trim a layer to a boundary, or cut the boundary out of it. Reduce a district file to one taluka, or remove a reserved area from a plot layer.

Why this matters here

Older Indian survey and revenue records sit on the Everest spheroid, not WGS 84. Treating one as the other puts everything a few hundred metres out — enough to move a plot boundary onto a neighbour.

Indian systems included

Kalianpur 1880, 1937 and 1975, the India zone grids, UTM zones 42N to 47N on both WGS 84 and Indian datums, and the WGS 84 state systems.

Bulk paste

Paste a column straight out of a spreadsheet. Anything after the first two values is carried through as a label, and the result downloads as CSV.

Nothing leaves your device

The arithmetic runs in your browser with proj4. No coordinate is transmitted, logged or stored anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between clip and erase?

Clip keeps what falls inside the boundary. The other option keeps what falls outside, which is what other software calls erase or difference. Both are on the same page.

What happens to points and lines?

Areas are cut exactly at the boundary. Points and lines are kept or dropped whole, because splitting a line at a boundary needs a different algorithm and would be a separate tool.

Do attributes survive?

Yes. Each cut piece keeps the attributes of the feature it came from.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No.
